  1. This message advises you about a feature of the early access releases of
  2. the Java WorkShop and to ask for your cooperation.

  4. If you click on the "accept" button of this dialog, Java WorkShop logs usage
  5. information to a file which is mailed to SunSoft.  This log summarizes
  6. information about how you use the workshop.  Information collected includes:
  7.  
  8.     - The platform and user
  9.     - Actions taken. For example, mouse button clicks and invocations
  10.       of different workshop tools
  11.  
  12. This information is summarized at SunSoft and used to help the developers
  13. answer questions like:
  14.  
  15.     - How much is the workshop being used?
  16.     - How many people are using the workshop on a particular platform?    
  17.     - Are people using a given feature? 
  18.     - If a lot of people are using this feature, should an
  19.       accelerator be added?
  20.     
  21. We are not interested in information about individuals who use the tools. We
  22. collect only the login name of users and the type of platform they are using.
  23. This information is gathered only to be able to count the number of distinct
  24. users using the product.

  26. A typical Usage Tracking mail message looks like:

  29. JDE : platform: "SunOS 5.5 sparc"

  31. Normally, you will be unaware that Usage Tracking is enabled.  Occasionally,
  32. for a variety of reasons, mail sent to SunSoft may bounce, and you might see a
  33. message from the Mailer-Daemon reporting that.  These messages may be safely
  34. deleted.

  36. We ask that you not turn off Usage Tracking because we are very interested in
  37. knowing how you use the Java WorkShop.  If you select "decline", you can still
  38. use all features of workshop. Usage tracking is simply turned off.
